BOWEN TECHNIQUE

The BOWEN TECHNIQUE is now available at
Berkhamsted Clinic of Hypnotherapy & Holistic Practices
with Maggie VandenBrekel, Cert ECBS, BTER

What is the Bowen Technique?  |  The Benefits of Bowen Technique

Bowen is a drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on therapy.  There is no pulling or cracking of joints, no insertion of needles and no manipulation.  The technique consists of a sequence of small, very precise, rolling moves over muscles and soft tissue, interspersed with periods of rest in order for the treatment to be absorbed and the body to start the re-aligning, self-healing process.  Bowen can also be administered through light clothing.

The effect of a Bowen treatment is to release stress at a very deep level, allowing the body to address imbalances in functions and chemical composition.  The aim is to restore, as far as possible, physiological equilibrium within the body.

The treatment is generally a pleasant and relaxing experience with no known adverse side effects.  It is suitable for people of all ages, from tiny babies to the very mature.

Treatments usually last 45 minutes to 1 hour, although a detailed Case History is taken at the first visit, which may necessitate more time being allowed.  Short-term (acute) injury is usually resolved in 1 - 4 sessions (at least 7 days apart), while long-standing (chronic) conditions may require several additional treatments.  Many clients return regularly for 'top-up' treatments, to boost their feeling of health and well-being and to strengthen their immune system.

The Benefits
The Bowen Technique has a remarkable record of success in helping clients with a wide range of conditions and there are many personal testimonies of Bowen working when nothing else has helped.

It has been shown to help not only muscular and skeletal problems such as:

back, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, whiplash, tennis and golfer's elbow, frozen shoulder and sports injuries

but also with such problems as:

arthritis, asthma, hay fever, eczema, migraine, IBS, lymphatic drainage, stress, depression and even fertility problems.

It can also help babies with colic, children who have glue ear, who bed-wet, or who have suffered trauma or exhibit behavioural problems.

The main professional body for Bowen practitioners is the Bowen Therapists' European Register, of which Maggie is a member.  If you would like more general information, BTER's website has details of research, articles and a 7-minute DVD about Bowen treatment.

CNHC is the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners.
Its key function is to enhance public protection by setting standards for registration with CNHC. The CNHC ‘quality mark' is being recognised as the hallmark of quality for the sector. This means that the general public, and those who commission the services of complementary healthcare practitioners, will be able to choose with confidence by looking for the CNHC quality mark.

The Department of Health in November 2009 stated: "CNHC is the only voluntary regulatory body for complementary healthcare which has official government backing.  No other organisation has the same exacting criteria or focus on safety and quality."

Maggie is also a member of the NHS Directory of Complementary & Alternative Practitioners.
